Save the World!

“One of the things that I love about graduate school is that I get to look at everything I am doing as a project! Its all research about life.” – Claiborne Jones

So let me catch you up on what I’ve been up to for the past few days. Currently, I’m on winter break of my first semester back in school. I’m super ecstatic about it. I mean honestly, what is there not to be happy about? Although this may be true, I couldn’t help but feel like at any moment it could have been over. The conditions that I was placed up against were do or die. I’m still here, so I must have done. Might be worth writing about in a future post. Regardless, today it is my intention to update you on what I’ve been up to over the break. Maybe speak on a couple topics that have been on my mind and how I am making a conscience effort to be the person that I want to be.

So what exactly have I been up to? The short answer to that question is independent reading. I’m going to have a pretty heavy workload next semester so I thought I would get a head start. One of the classes that I’m really excited about taking is Statistical Mechanics. The reason is because I am currently under the impression that it is the closest thing to a description of macroscopic properties from a microscopic perspective. In colloquial terms, it explains the internal workings of the phenomena that you experience when interacting with everyday objects. However, after sifting through several readings I learned that the field that may be better suited to do this is Quantum Mechanics. So lets just say, I have a lot of things to learn or unlearn depending on who you ask.

Secondly, I started a blog. I started this as a way to share updates with what is happening in my life, speak on popular topics within my culture and its influence on American culture, and create a space for me to share my unfiltered thoughts. Throughout the semester I became increasingly aware of my digital footprint so I decided that I would make an effort to control my narrative and be more aware of how I share my thoughts online. I recognize now that being online is really like operating a business and the product that you are selling is yourself. This has been a fairly large project, one that I think will take the entirety of my life. I’ve bumped my head a bunch, so here’s to learning.

Lastly, I’ve been enjoying my own company. This has allowed for a lot of self-reflection and space to recharge. Being in school I’ve realized that socializing with so many different types of people is very draining. I certainly will be making adjustments next semester now that I have learned how to maneuver in this environment. Trust me, all that friendly stuff is out the door. I can certainly say that I did not expect things to go the way that they did, however I am not surprised. I’ll share more details about my semester in a future post.

So that’s been my break. Reading, catching up on the things I enjoy, and recharging. It has allowed me to realign with myself and refocus on the mission that I’ve set off on. So with that, I’m signing off. Never forget! Go get the money and Save the World while you do it!

Sincerely,

Lord Claiborne
