Welcome!

So, I’ve finally created a blog. This has been a long time coming. See normally I would get on Twitter and share my thoughts. However, after this past semester I realized that I needed a new way to express myself. Something that was tangible and could be respected. Its been a long time coming, glad that I’ve finally made the leap.

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Claiborne Jones. I grew up in the heart of Houston, Tx, I mean smack dead in the center! I could literally walk a couple blocks and be in Downtown Houston. The conditions in which I grew up will be discussed in future posts, I can’t give away everything in the first post, then you’d have no reason to return.

I’m fairly well educated, anyone who is educated down plays their education. I attended North Forest High School in Northeast Houston, TX, 2012. Earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin (UT), 2017. Currently in the process of pursuing a PhD in Physics to ultimately become a Physics Professor. At the moment, I am enrolled in graduate school at UT. During my time there, I want to develop and implement strategic methodology to get more Black students to study Physics. I have thoughts on how I may proceed in doing this, but before I can focus on that I have to figure out how to make it through this first year. One semester later, I successfully solved one integral! Thank The Lord!

I lived a lot of life in my time away from school. We’ll get into the details in between posts. There’s a lot of life lessons to share. Some good, some bad, all real. I have no intention of filtering anything, unless it incriminates me, then I plead the fifth (*fifth*).

So welcome! I hope that you can enjoy the thoughts, experiences, and opinions of a Black man who also happens to not comb his hair. Hence, “Nappy Thoughts.” Its my way of rebelling against a world that constantly reminds me that Blackness is a problem. I accept myself for who I am and as I do so I grow more comfortable in seeing the world for what it is and not what I wish it to be.

Sincerely,
Lord Claiborne
